| Nepali Woolen Carpet (Tibetan
rugs): |
| Woolen carpet is
generally taken as the masterpiece of Tibetan
art, and it widely depicts the mysterious aspect
of human development and civilizations observed
from the Buddhist point of view. We find a close
similarity between woolen carpet and 'Thanka'
art both of which are the true exposition of the
Tibetan philosophy of life. It is considered
that both forms of art (woolen carpet and
Thanka) depict the glorious sermons of Lord
Buddha by means of dexterous blend of colors and
masterly design of patterns and lines. Truly
speaking, the Thanka art originated with the
purpose of pacifying the unsteady human mind
because peace of mind is an essential factor to
materialize the sacred preaching of Lord Buddha.
Similarly this mysterious art (Thanka) enables
human beings to conceive the existence of the
whole universe through pacifying and further
energizing their mind. |

| In the context of
Nepal the beginning of the availability of
Tibetan carpets can be traced back to the time
when it established its diplomatic relationship
with Tibet. However, its commercial flow gained
considerable momentum along with the arrival of
the Tibetan refugees. Hence the credit of the
commercial promotion of the Tibetan carpet goes
to those Tibetans who took asylum in Nepal.
Gradually, the production of Tibetan carpets in
Nepal started gaining international attention
and soon became one of the chief export items.
Along with its growing demand, the Tibetan
carpet underwent many changes in its shape and
pattern and different names like Traditional,
Modern and Semi-modern, were given to the
improved shapes and patterns. Despite the
changes brought about for the commercial
sustainsibility of the woolen carpet, the
weaving patterns and basic theoretical aspects
remained unchanged. It is therefore, the
Nepalese woolen carpet retains the traditional
Tibetan pattern in its quality. |

different nooks and corners of the world. It is
prepared as per the demand of customers by using
the patterns and colors of their choice.
Remarkably enough, the export of woolen carpet
to different foreign countries has been one of
the chief sources of income generations
notwithstanding the different ups and downs in
its commercial promotions. The bio-diversity of
this mountainous kingdom may as well be one of
the chief factors that are giving continuity to
the promotion of Nepalese carpet and Thanka art.
Most of the professional Nepalese manufacturers
of woolen carpet have always given a
considerable priority to the Tibetan pattern to
retain the genuineness in the production. So our
industry also gives priority to the same pattern
to maintain quality in the production. It is our
commitment that we shall never compromise with
quality so as to reach the acme of this
profession. |

| Manufacturing
Carpet |
| The manufacturing of
almost all the carpets are entirely done
manually, from the beginning to the finishing
stage. The primary manufacturing stages
include: |
| Wool Sorting
and Washing |
Wool obtained from Tibet is sorted
of foreign materials and other forms of wool. To
remove fat and wax from the wool washing of the
wool is carried out and then dried.
The
wool obtained from the third countries (mainly
New Zealand) is obtained after scouring and thus
does not need washing and sorting. |

|
Carding At
HASNEPAL we perform all our carding by
hand. |
| |
| Spinning |
Wool is spun
using hand-wheel or charkha. The wool is spun
into either coarse or fine yarns. The finer
yarns are used for making high knot
carpets. |
|
|
| Dyeing |
HASNEPAL uses vegetable dyes, free
from Azo-based compounds, in all its
products. |
|
|
| Designing |
The most important work for being
popular to the latest product manufacturing part
is design. Creating a unique design can have
push and pull motive for the products to the
market and particular consumer. It is the main
marketing activities of the particular
product. |
|
|
| Weaving |
Carpet weaving is done in wooden
frames or looms of different sizes. The yarn is
woven or rather knotted around threads stretched
horizontally and vertically across the frames.
Tibetan double knotting system is used to knot
the woolen yarns.
The designs are
pre-sketched in graphs resembling looms that are
set up for carpet weaving. |

| CARPET
CARE |
| |
| VACUUMING: |
Light, loose dirt and
soil that finds it's way into carpets has to be
regularly extracted out using a good-quality
vacuum cleaner to prevent soil build-up. Gritty
soil can seriously damage the fibers. A good
beating or brushing action will loosen the
gritty soil and raise the pile to facilitate
cleaning. As for the frequency, one simple
rule is to gauge when your carpets begin to show
signs of dirt and litter; for areas of heavy
traffic you may have to vacuum as often as once
a day and for other, more protected areas, once
a week may be sufficient. |
| TIP: |
| For best results, use
three to seven strokes of the vacuum cleaner,
forwards and backwards, with the last stroke
always in the direction of the pile. This
ensures a uniform appearance of the surface of
the carpet. |
|
|
| SPOT
REMOVAL: |
| All spills MUST be
cleaned immediately. Research by independent
agencies has suggested that up to 90% of the
spots and stains from liquid spills can be
prevented if cleaned immediately. |
| TIP: |
Recommended
steps for spot removal: 1. All
spills must be cleaned using a clean absorbent
white towel or napkin. 2. The spot removal
agent should be pre-tested on a small,
inconspicuous area of the carpet: apply a few
drops of the agent to all the colors of the
carpet; hold the white, absorbent material
against it and count to ten- if the dye from the
carpet has bled on to the white material or if
the carpet shows noticeable discoloration, call
a professional cleaner for advice. 3. To
clean the spot, apply small amounts of the spot
removal agent, working from the edges towards
the center of the stain to prevent the stain
from spreading. 4. Blot the solution - DO
NOT RUB OR BRUSH. Repeat steps 3 & 4 till
the spot is removed completely. In case of
doubts, it is best to seek help from a
professional. For information on spot removal
agents for various types of stains, check the
Interactive Stain Removal Guide. |

|
| CLEANING: |
| To find out when your
carpet needs more than just frequent vacuuming
or spot removal, try the following test:
|
| TIP: |
| Compare an exposed
area of your carpet with an unexposed area - if
you can see noticeable difference in their
appearances, it's time for some more serious
cleaning! It is probably time to decide if you
would prefer to hire a professional or do it
yourself. |
